In 2006, soon after rolling out "City" as a new global sub-theme for all urban models, Lego presented a brand-new, re-designed 'Airport.'

The 'Passenger Plane' no. 7893, launched in March of 2006, was the second-largest model in that generation, with 400+ parts. Aside from a massive passenger jet, it included a boarding ramp with a staircase, two passengers with their luggage, a pilot, and a ground crew worker with signal lights to navigate the plane down the runway.

The aircraft is modular: hollow fuselage nests a pilot's cabin, two seating classes, and a stewards' station with a beverage cart—each based on the 6x10 plate, so interchangeable. There are two doors in the back and the front, and the center section of the roof is removable in one piece.

I enjoy almost everything about the design and build of this Lego plane, but it wasn't possible to complete it without creating bulky MOC-assemblies for front and aft (tail) fuselage sections. I think the rear end turns out quite okay, but the front is far from ideal.

The best part is all these alterations are limited to just two elements. Hide or delete the "^MOC Parts" group, and the rest of the build is about 97-98% exact.
