It's great to see fans of the books!

Adding to his heroism, Tom was the only person in Middle Earth to be unaffected by the ring. I never quite understood how, but he literally put it on without disappearing, and then handed it back to Frodo without a care in the world.

I have another good point as well: after saving the hobbits from the barrow-wight, he didn't supply them with a change of clothes which is why the scene was not put in the movies.

Actually maybe not a good point to add to his heroism.

Actually he went and fetched their ponies so that they could get spare clothes out of their packs.

Oh right. But for a solid ten minutes he told them to ‘run free on the grass’ or something.
