==MISSING PARTS==

The build is 95% complete, there are 18 parts missing out of the original inventory. No sealife MOC-decorations this time, parts of the ocean scene are left blank.

Most notable changes are "portholes" in the submarine, diver's scooter, and some secondary bits. The station, helicopter, dinghy, and most of the rest are pretty much intact.

This particular set no. 1782 "Discovery Station," which came out in 1997 in 'Divers’ subtheme doesn't appear in the consumer’s catalog, marked as a "Limited release" on Brickset; I guess it was only available through a particular retailer, or in select countries (additional googling didn't provide any meaningful results for me). And that is a bummer, if you ask me, since the model is just exceptional when it comes to design and construction, and certainly stands out compared to three other big Divers models, even though the "Discovery Station" with 320 parts is smaller than the rest.

Divers was one of all-time best subthemes in "Classic Town," sadly pretty short-lived since it only lasted for one year with seven models released. (Plus a few limited sets, polybags, etc.) Lego had a few takes on 'underwater exploration' theme throughout the years, but 'Divers' remains my favorite as it was completely realistic, very detailed, and accurate. Check the inventory, labeled as "All new 1997, available January," in the catalog: https://images.brickset.com/library/view/?f=catalogues/c97uk&p=23

The "Discovery Station" encapsulates three different 'planes' of reality, from the ocean floor scene and a submarine, to a marine station on the surface, and a helicopter rising above it. Very cool aspect and none of the larger 'Divers' models can show that.

The bottom of the ocean section is tiny, mounted on a 16x16 baseplate, but includes an actionable underwater trap: a white shark is sprung with a rubber, hiding beneath the rocks, and waiting for a careless minifig diver to pull out a 2x2 flat tile. There's a skeleton, bunch of golden coins, and seaweed to decorate the scene.

The submarine is similar to other 'Divers' sets, but finished in white and comes with four robotic arms. Other vehicles include a motorized dinghy boat with a rope holding it at bay and a helicopter that sits one minifigure and has a spool with a hook on the rope.

The centerpiece is a marine station, based on a 16x32 baseplate, with a large crane, a spacious center room (equipped with a radar console, rotating chair, and an x-ray machine), a helipad, and a berth to park boats and submarines (on a special mounting pad).
